The hill stations have many nearby trekking options like Rajmachi, Lohagarh, etc.

The best time to visit this place is during monsoon season when it gets covered with lush greeneries. However, people do like to keep on visiting these hill stations every weekend. You can visit these hill stations during winter too.

2. Alibag

When it is not the monsoon, the best thing you can do is to head to the beachside, and what better option for Mumbaikars than Alibaug?

Alibaug is located at around 95 km from Mumbai. You can get there by bus or car.

Other than the normal roadways, there is an interesting option available, which is the ferry.

Yes, you can take a ferry ride, where you can board yourself, and your car can also board the ferry which will take you to Alibaug.

The ferry leaves from Gateway of India, Colaba, and it takes around 40 mins to reach Mandwa Pier

Alibag is known for its beautiful beaches, like Nagaon Beach, Kashid Beach, and Versoli Beach. Other than beaches there is Kulaba fort which you can visit too.

The best time to visit Alibaug is during Winter, or early summer.

3. Matheran

Matheran, a small hill station situated in the Karjat district. It is situated approximately 80 km from Mumbai, it takes less than 3 hrs to reach there, which is perfect to enjoy a short weekend. You can easily reach here by Car or take any Karjat or Khopoli local from CSMT.

If you are coming by local, you can get down at Neral and take share Taxi or you can even take Toy train.

The specialty of this hill station is that no vehicle is allowed inside the hill station, you can park your car outside the entry gate and then walk for 40 mins, there are other options available too like Horse ride, Hand pull rickshaw or you can even take a toy train from Aman Lodge.

The calm, peaceful environment of the hill station is the perfect environment to get destressed.

The best time to visit Matheran is during Post Monsoon, (August-September) when the hills are still green. You can also enjoy the hill station during monsoon but you should stay prepared to face heavy rain. The hill station is also a good option to visit during Winter too. People also visit the hill station throughout the year.

4. Malshej Ghat

Malshej Ghat is a ghat section in Western Ghat which is located at around 125 km from Mumbai. The gorgeous mountain pass reaches its true beauty during Monsoon as the area gets surrounded by lush greeneries and lakes get filled up.

You will come across numerous waterfalls while riding through this ghat.

Some popular locations near Malshej ghat are Malshej Falls, Harischandragad Fort, Pimple Joga dam, Ajob Hill fort.

You can board the ST bus or reach here by your car or bike.

Just like any hill station in Western Ghat region, late monsoon is the best time to explore this magnificent Ghat.

5. Vasai

Often called “Little Goa”, the small town of Vasai is situated at around 54 km from the Mumbai. The town is well connected with Mumbai by roadways and railways. Railway is perhaps the quickest option.

You can easily board the Vasai local from any Western line railway station. From the railway station, you can easily hire an auto rickshaw to do the local sightseeing.

The town is popular for the Bassein fort and numerous beaches.
